In many people who are infected with chlamydia, symptoms are not apparent. Those who do develop symptoms may experience pain while urinating or have an abnormal discharge (mucus or pus) from the penis or vagina. If a chlamydial infection is left untreated, it can affect the reproductive system and may ultimately lead to infertility. If chlamydia symptoms do appear, they usually do within one to three weeks after being infected.
